L.A.C.E. Productions presents "DANCE IS DEAD" ~ A funeral for dance. RIP.

Dance and choreography collaborators Caitlyn Lace Carradine (USA/Austria) and Žiga Jereb (Slovenia/Austria) have found themselves being told repeatedly within their community that dance is dead. If that is indeed the case, they thought it might be a good idea to give dance a funeral, may it rest peace.... dear friend.

Please join them as they celebrate the memory of dance through it's Wake, Funeral, Burial, and hopefully in the end, after beating the dead horse, catch a glimpse of it's Rebirth. Expect maudlin and melancholy behavior. Tissues will be provided to all mourners. Hysterical outbursts are welcomed. A schnapps bar featuring homemade Slovenian schnapps from Jereb's grandfather will be provided to ease the sorrow.

Acclaimed lighting and video artist Victoria Coeln (Austria) will work live with the dancers to frame the shadows and depths of the funeral. Composer Henry Wolfe Carradine (USA/Austria) has created the musical score to accompany the service.

.

Produced by Los Angeles Contemporary Ensemble, with gracious help and support from the Kamnik Tourism Board in Slovenia, and the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC.

Los Angeles Contemporary Ensemble (L.A.C.E.)

L.A.C.E. was founded in 2002 by the Los Angeles-based dancer/choreographer, Caitlyn Lace Carradine. Until October 2006, L.A.C.E. resided in it’s own theater -or- "laboratory" in Camarillo (at the famous abandoned Southern California State Mental Institution) where it intended to develop experimental ballet works, and to push the limits of contemporary dance theater by having a place to work out new ideas, and test them in front of small audiences.

In October 2006 L.A.C.E. became a traveling and rotating company of transitioning artists, sharing an extensive library of work across Southern California.

As of December 2008 LA.C.E. has taken root in Vienna, Austria -  continuing the “just go for it” mentality producing work with more transitioning and growing artists seeking alternative outlets for the creative and hands on producing processes.

Our "Dance Is Dead" production is the first in a series of what we hope will inaugurate our bridge concept of sharing artists between Los Angeles and Vienna.
